While scouring the site of a shelter in search of a pet to adopt, one mother had no idea that she would find her dog there. She hadn’t heard from him for over 2 years. The reunion was very moving.
A woman found her dog, lost 2 years earlier, at the shelter where she was seeking to adopt another. A story reported by People this Monday, June 28.
Aisha Nieves lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Recently, she wanted to adopt a dog for her 2 sons and was visiting the site of the local shelter, the Lehigh County Humane Society, for this purpose.
The photos of one canine in particular caught his attention; the animal looked strangely like Kovu.
Kovu is her dog, nowhere to be found since May 2019. She adopted this Pitbull / Rottweiller cross when he was still a very young 7 week old puppy. Despite all her efforts to find him, she had totally lost track of him.
She was unaware that the quadruped had been discovered and taken in by the Lehigh County Humane Society a few weeks later. He was in bad shape then; the dog was infested with fleas, suffered from inflammation and had lost part of its coat.
The volunteers treated him and then found him a family in October 2019.
His new owners had, unfortunately, been forced to return him to the shelter in June 2021, because they risked being evicted from their accommodation.
Back on the list of dogs to adopt, Kovu was therefore spotted by Aisha Nieves, who did not want to believe it at the start.
” You’re coming home. I will never lose you again ”
Her doubts were lifted as soon as she recognized her dog’s hallmarks, including a scar over one eye. “Oh my God, this is my baby, this is Kovu! She cried then.
After calling the association, Aisha Nieves came to the shelter for a happy reunion. Kovu “was screaming, trying to get away from the guy holding him and run towards me,” says his owner. They spent long minutes hugging each other before heading home.
