Ada Daniel was the delighted owner of ‘a lot of greyhounds’ when she was younger, and she quipped that her dogs were the secret element to a long life.
You know the old adage, “a greyhound a day keeps the doctor away.”
Ada has been a resident of Codnor Park Care facility in Codnor, Derbyshire, since 2015. When her special birthday approached, her facility made an appeal for cards, which resulted in around 300.
What a well-liked lady!
Staff at the senior care facility delighted her with hundreds of cards for her private birthday celebration, which also included afternoon tea and balloons given in response to the campaign.
Ada doesn’t have a lot of family left, Kelly Goucher, the activities coordinator at Ashmere, which manages the facility, stated.
Because she never had kids, she doesn’t have grandchildren, so they simply wished to get her as many cards as they could. She enjoys the fact that individuals are aware of her due to her age.
Kelly chose to post the request on a local Facebook group and was astounded by the number of individuals who desired to give their best wishes.
She added that she woke up the next morning to 135 messages from individuals wanting to send cards.
A similar plea was undertaken by the care home to commemorate Ada’s 105th birthday, which occurred to fall during lockdown, and garnered more than 200 responses.
Kelly said that Ada didn’t have kids but was once a mother to many fur kids.
She had a lot of greyhounds, she said.
She’s definitely a character, Kelly said. She once asked her what her secret was, and she responded that it was having dogs rather than children.
You go, girl!
Kelly said that she’s literally been talking about her birthday since April, and she’s been on countdown to the big day. They didn’t tell her they’d made the request, and the number of messages they received was incredible.
They’ve also received a large number of donations, so individuals have given them banners with her picture on them and balloons with her name on them.
